Coach Jim Calhoun Supports ERfC’s KidZ Sports Program

November 17th, 2009 admin No comments

Enfield, CT –In the wake of budget cuts and the decision to drop intramural sports programs from Enfield elementary schools last spring, Educational Resources for Children (ERfC) launched KidZ Sports, a program designed to offer every student the opportunity to participate in a valuable sports experience.

Coach Jim Calhoun of the UConn Huskies said of the program, “As a parent, I’m pleased to know that there are organizations that are looking out for Connecticut kids like KidZ Sports. I believe this is a worthy endeavor that promote sportsmanship, confidence, and healthy habits. KidZ Sports is a model for others to emulate.”

“We are pleased to see that KidZ Sports is being embraced so enthusiastically by the community. Families and students are benefitting from increased opportunities to build positive relations, self-esteem, and healthy active children. We are all looking forward to the basketball winter session,” said Jeff Rhein, program coordinator.

Now entering the 5th week of the first session, KidZ Sports is providing over 50 students with an athletic program that offers education in a successful team environment. Flag football is now being offered at Stowe and Barnard Elementary Schools, and registration is now open for the basketball session, starting January 4th. The program is in its pilot stages, but hopes to expand to additional elementary schools in Enfield.

KidZ Sports mom Sheila, mother of Michael, said, “I think this program is fantastic because my son gets to try a great variety of different sports, and it’s a perfect way for him to make new friends and have fun. The timing is ideal. He can burn off energy immediately after school. I’m very impressed with how KidZ Sports is run, the staff is top notch. The price is so minimal; I can’t believe that I’m able to put him in a quality athletic program for so little.”

The first session of Kidz Sports runs until December 23rd, and the second session will begin on January 4th, running through April. The program is open to grades 1 to 3 on Monday and Wednesday and grades 4 to 6 Tuesday and Thursday. Cost of registration is $45.00, averaging out to $1.50 per day. Applications are available at www.KidZSports.us.
